Product
Flax is a natural plant fiber that comes from the stem of a plant. Linen is made out of flax. The term 'linen' creates misleading information while labeling other fabrics with similar looks. Flax linen is a strong, durable, and biodegradable fabric.
Hemp fabric is a natural fabric made from the stalks of the Cannabis Sativa plant. The plants are usually grown for industrial purposes. Hemp can be used for textile production, rope making, food and food supplements, etc. That's why hemp fabric is durable, delicate, gentle, and versatile.
The hot debate - linen bedding vs. cotton. While both are equally good, here are a few reasons why linen and hemp can be more beneficial:
Linen bedding - are pre-softened pieces of fabric that get softer with each wash. Linen bedding is durable, breathable, hypoallergenic, and thermoregulating, making perfect bedding for all seasons. The fabric dries fast and has elasticity.
Hemp bedding - are pre-softened pieces of fabric, has a subtle sheen, and, like linen, gets softer with each wash. Hemp bedding is durable, breathable, hypoallergenic, and perfect for all seasons. The material is less elastic than linen.
Please note that linen and hemp are relatively close in qualitative parameters. So, the differences between them are very subtle, and at first touch is hard to tell which one is which.
Linen has significant absorbing factors, so the textile loves water and moisture. It's best if your linen is handled in lukewarm water because if the water reaches 60°C / 140 °F or above, it can shrink the fabric.
Linen fabric has fantastic benefits, such as breathability, thermoregulation, durability, and hypoallergenic factor. This fabric is suitable for people who have allergies and the skin is quite sensitive. They do not let the dust mites or bacteria live in the material, as the linen has a unique bacteriological factor.
Hemp fabric has fantastic benefits, such as breathability, durability, and hypoallergenic factor. The material is lightweight, subtle and suitable for people who have sensitive or acne-prone skin. Hemp has a high resistant factor to any mold and mildew.
All of our products are handmade in Lithuania by artisans. For more details, visit our Manufacturing.
All our linen and hemp products are softened.
Standard linen is unsoftened, undyed linen fabric. Usually, this fabric is in its natural color in the grayish, whitish, or brownish hue.
Stonewashed or prewashed linen is softened. This process is performed in large industrial machines where special liquid runs through the fabric's fibers. Performing this washing method on linen help the threads to loosen, and the material becomes more supple and soft to the touch.
Due to different capabilities to display colors on your computer monitor, the actual color of our products may vary. We try to edit our photos to show the samples as life-like as possible. We cannot guarantee that the color you see accurately portrays the product's actual color.
Please note that there may be some color differences if you're purchasing the same color items at different times. This happens because items may be manufactured from different dye lots, and the shade may differ due to natural linen qualities.
Pillowcases made from linen fabric are suitable for people who have sensitive and acne-prone skin. The linen fabric doesn't create discomfort for the skin. Therefore, linen has a natural bacteriological barrier that doesn't allow any mildew, dust mites, and bacteria to live in the textile. For more information about linen pillowcases, visit our blog.
Care
Linen bedding can be washed in the washing machine in lukewarm water, the temperature 40°C / 100 °F because high temperature can make the fabric shrink. You will reach the best result if you wash your linen bedding separately from other fabrics. For more care advice, visit our Fabric care guide.
Hemp bedding can be washed by hand or in a washing machine in 30-40 °C / 85-100 °F temperature water. This fabric shouldn't be washed at high temperatures because the hemp can shrink or tear. For more care advice, visit our Fabric care guide.
Care and hygiene of your linen bed sheets can benefit your health. Not cleaning your linen bed sheets regularly can cause severe damage to your health, like allergies, skin breakouts, or more. That is why you need to periodically take care of your bed sheets because it can help you improve your sleep quality and health. By cleaning your linen bed sheets regularly, you can increase linens' natural benefits, and with each wash, your precious linen piece will get smoother and comfier.
Many health professionals recommend washing your linen bed sheets at least once a week, no matter where you place your linen bed sheets.
All of our linen products are prewashed (stonewashed); because of this process, they are already softened. Despite this factor, with every wash, the product you have will get softer on its own.
Linen bedding is naturally wrinkly, but it will wrinkle less because the fabric is already softened. If you want to have fewer wrinkles, then you need to follow these steps:
Washing - ensure that the washing machine is not overstuffed as it can get more wrinkly. Best if you wash your linen bedding separately.
Drying - it's best to flat dry it if you want your linen less wrinkly.
Ironing - if you want to remove all small wrinkles, you can iron your linen bedding while it's still damp.
For more advice on wrinkle-free linen, visit our blog.
To dry your linen duvet cover, you can use two methods:
Hanging or laying it flat - this drying method will help you achieve a less wrinkly result. If you have a white linen duvet cover to maintain fresh white color, allow dry it out in the direct sun.
Tumble dry - machine drying is a fast dry. Keep your dryer at a low temperature but ensure that you remove the fabric while it's still damp and let it dry naturally.
For more care advice, visit our Fabric care guide.
To dry your hemp duvet cover, you can use two methods:
Tumble dry - keep your dryer at a low temperature to prevent the fabric from tearing.
Hang dry - this method helps you to ensure that the fabric has fewer wrinkles.
For more care advice, visit our Fabric care guide.
Having stain-free linen is everyone's goal. Any stain should be removed as soon as it appears and won't let it get old. Here's how you can remove different stains:
Red wine stains - dab the excess wine, sprinkle a generous amount of salt, and leave it overnight. The next day shake the salt and wash the linen according to instructions.
Berry, jam stains - as soon as the stain appears, pour hot water on it. If it didn't remove altogether, repeat the step and wash according to instructions.
Coffee stains - dab excess liquid, mix two tablespoons of each: dishwashing soap, white vinegar, and water. Gently rub on the stain and wash it according to instructions.
Beverage (tea, juice, soda) stains - soak the linen in cold water for 15 min and wash it accordingly to instructions.
For more instructions on removing the stains, read here.
Sustainability
The linen sustainability factor comes from the source - the flax plant. It requires fewer resources to grow the plant. While harvesting the plant, different parts are used to make various products like linen fabric, twines, ropes, linen seed oil, and food supplements. Flax doesn't require any chemicals to be produced into linen fabric, and the material is biodegradable.
The hemp sustainability factor comes from the manufacturing process. The hemp plant is harvested with special machines and left to rett for several weeks. In the meantime, fibers separate from the woody parts of the plant, and then fibers are carded in strands while leftover impurities are cleaned. Hemp requires 50% less water to grow, and the cultivation process doesn't require toxic pesticides and insecticides.
STANDART 100 by OEKO-TEX® (2017OK0319 AITEX) certificate guarantees that only non-toxic materials are used to produce linen fabric. Each product is handled with care and love to be safe for contact with human skin for both adults and children.
EUROPEAN FLAX® Standard (BVFR10502602) certificate label means that each step of premium linen fiber processing is traceable. Each party that participates in the processing of linen is audited and commits to specific criteria regarding their work. This certificate ensures that the flax plant is grown with respect to the environment - zero irrigation, zero waste, and GMO-free, reducing the ecological footprint.
